CityRent Safety Centre

Simple checks for safer rentals.

A practical checklist for browsing, messaging, viewing, paying, picking up, and reporting. You do not need to be an expert—just take the next sensible step before moving forward.

♢
01

Browse carefully

Read the full listing, compare the price with similar rentals, check the update date, and look for missing or contradictory details. A polished photo is not proof.

02

Ask specific questions

Ask who controls the property or item, what is included, when it is available, and what happens if plans change. Genuine advertisers should be able to answer clearly.

03

Verify independently

Confirm the address, ownership or authority to rent, contact details, and payment recipient through information you find independently—not only through links or documents supplied in a message.

04

Inspect before committing

View the space or inspect the item, confirm its condition, and make sure the agreement matches what was advertised. Never let a countdown or “many other applicants” pressure you.

05

Pay deliberately

Use a traceable payment method only after the terms are clear. Keep receipts, messages, names, dates, and copies of the agreement. Never share passwords or sensitive identity documents casually.

06

Report and step away

If the story changes, the person becomes aggressive, or the request feels unsafe, stop. Save the evidence and email info@cityrent.ca with the listing title or URL and a short explanation.

Red flags worth taking seriously

Requests for gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, password resets, unusual deposits, remote-only viewings, altered payment instructions, or personal information unrelated to the rental should make you pause. Several red flags together are a reason to walk away.

StopDo not send money or additional documents.
SaveKeep screenshots, the URL, usernames, email addresses, and message dates.
ReportContact CityRent with enough detail for us to locate the listing or conversation.
ProtectIf you shared a password or financial information, contact the relevant provider immediately and change compromised credentials.

What badges and moderation mean

Badges, trust scores, account age, active listings, and promotion labels are platform signals—not identity verification, credit checks, inspections, insurance, or guarantees. CityRent may take action on reports, but no moderation system can identify every problem in advance.
